Downloads and working directories can quickly become cluttered with files that need to be manually classified and moved. Smart Folder Organizer was built to automate that repetitive process while keeping file operations visible, configurable, and controllable.
Smart Folder Organizer uses real-time filesystem monitoring to detect file events as they happen, then applies configurable rules to determine where files should be routed. The system is designed to automate routine organization without relying on continuous polling.
The project evolved from a basic file-sorting utility into a more complete desktop tool. Development introduced filesystem event monitoring, rule-based routing, duplicate handling, configurable mappings, logging, and a Tkinter interface for defining and managing organization rules.
Automation becomes useful only when its actions remain understandable and recoverable. Smart Folder Organizer emphasizes control through configurable rules, operation logging, duplicate handling, and workflows designed to reduce the risk of unwanted file changes.
